This Post Egg Retrieval Hydration + Anti-Constipation Drink is the first thing I consume the morning after my egg retrieval. This drink gets me going to the bathroom by the following day, and usually sooner.
The key ingredient for this anti-constipation drink is whole aloe vera leaf juice. This contains a natural laxative called anthraquinone. Anthraquinone gets your body moving if you’re feeling constipated, which you most likely are after an anesthesia procedure, whether that be an egg retrieval, laparoscopy or something else. Whole leaf aloe vera juice is key. The outer portion of the plant is what contains the anthraquinones, so aloe juice, juice from the center of the plant, won’t give you the same laxative effect as whole leaf aloe juice.
Watermelon is super hydrating, made of 92 percent water, eight percent sugar and other essentials like salts, calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium. Ginger is our anti-inflammatory, and if I have it on hand, cucumber can also be a great addition for hydration.
I use papaya juice and mango for added sweetness, to counteract the bitterness of the whole leaf aloe juice. If you don’t have or like papaya and/or mango, replace with other sweet juice / fruit. Other juices you can use are apple or orange, and other fruit options could be grapes or strawberries. Something with sweetness. You can’t go wrong with almost any juice / fruit switch out, as long as it’s sweet and you like it.
Ingredients for The IVF Hydration + Anti-Constipation Drink
- 2 oz whole leaf aloe very juice
- 2 oz papaya juice (or other sweet fruit juice)
- Thumb size piece of ginger (smaller if you don’t like ginger)
- 5 medium size pieces watermelon
- 3-4 slices of mango (or other sweet fruit)
- 3-4 oz water, exact measurement doesn’t matter
Blend all ingredients together, starting blender on low then going to high till smooth, then back to low. This will get rid of any small chunks. Pour into large cup and enjoy.
